The College of Veterinary and Animal Science is a constituent college of the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, under the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science. Since its inception in 1954, the college has prospered and spread horizontally. The mandate of the college is to impart quality professional education, to develop technologies suitable for promoting animal production in the state of Rajasthan, to transfer the technologies to field functionaries and to develop a center of higher learning, research and extension in the field of veterinary and animal science
The College of Veterinary and Animal Science is currently pursuing the academic programmes of B.V.Sc. & A.H, which is a programme of 5-year duration (four and half year course work and 6 calendar months of internship as per the Veterinary Council of India), M.V.Sc., which is a programme of 2-year duration currently being offered in 14 subjects and Ph.D. programme of 3 year duration by course work in ten subjects. The University has started a new, two year Diploma in Animal Husbandry programme in the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science from 2007-08. A two year training course of Livestock Assistant was being run till the academic session 2006-07 by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Govt. of Rajasthan at four of its own institutes located at Jaipur (Bassi Chak), Kota, Jodhpur and Udaipur and many private institutions under approval from Govt. of Rajasthan. The state government had decided that, from the session 2007-08, the programme should be run under affiliation to Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner. Accordingly, the RAJUVAS decided to run similar programme as Diploma in Animal Husbandry at its own constituent colleges , units and affiliated institutions.
